Understanding Storefront Sales Splits

Explains the three storefront split methods — Individual, Shift, and Day — how each distributes sales credit among Scouts, which split is recommended and why, and how to set or change the split method in the Leader Portal.

Written by Rachelle C

Storefront splits determine how sales credit is shared among Scouts working a storefront shift. Your unit selects one storefront split method for the entire season, and all storefront sales are calculated based on that selection.

Available Storefront Split Methods

Trail’s End® offers three storefront split options:

Individual (Recommended)

  • Each Scout receives credit for the sales they personally record.

  • The Scout who enters the sale in the app receives full credit.

  • This method provides the most accuracy and transparency.

Best for: Units that want clear accountability and minimal adjustments. Rewarding Scouts for their individual effort.

Shift

  • Sales recorded during a shift are split evenly among all Scouts signed up for that shift.

  • All Scouts registered for the shift receive credit, regardless of who records the sales.

Best for: Units that staff multiple Scouts per shift and prefer shared credit.

Day

Note: This split method is only available to units that had it selected in 2025.

  • Sales are split among all Scouts working that storefront on the same day.

  • Credit is proportional to time worked.

    • A Scout working two shifts will receive twice the credit of a Scout working one shift.

  • Each storefront reservation is calculated independently, i.e. if you have reserved two storefronts that were split into morning and afternoon, they are considered two different storefronts.

Best for: Units that want time-based credit.

How to Set or Change Your Storefront Split Method

Unit Leaders can set or update the split method at any time.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings in the left navigation menu.

  2. Go to Storefronts.

  3. Select your desired method under Shift Split Method.

Important Notes:

  • Only one split method may be used for the season.

  • Changing the split method will recalculate all previous storefront sales using the new method.

  • Consider finalizing your split method before storefronts begin.

Do All Scouts Need to Record Sales to Get Credit?

  • Individual split: Yes. Each Scout must log in and record their own sales to receive credit.

  • Shift or Day split: No. As long as the Scout is signed up for the shift, they will receive credit — even if another Scout records the sale.

Can Sales be Split between Multiple Units Working the Same Storefront?

Trail's End® does not support automatic cross-unit splitting. If multiple units need to work together, there are two options.

Possible Options

  1. Combine units (if allowed by Council)

    • All accounting is shared.

    • Commissions must be separated manually.

  2. Manual tracking and reconciliation

    • One unit reserves the storefront and supplies inventory.

    • Scouts from the reserving unit use Storefront Sales.

    • Scouts from the other unit record individual sales.

    • Inventory is transferred between units afterward to reconcile.

How Splits Works in Practice - FAQs

What if a Scout is added or removed from a Shift after it has ended?

  • With Individual - Only the Scout who recorded the sales will get credit regardless of who is signed up for the shift.

  • With Shift or Day splits, sales credit is based on who is signed up for the shift. If a leader adds or removes a Scout from a shift after the shift has ended, the sales credit will recalculate for that shift to split credit with the additional Scout or remove credit from the Scout that was removed.

Can sales be moved from one Scout to another?

  • No, storefront sales could be moved to Individual sales for the same Scout but not to a different Scout.

  • With Shift of Day splits, sales credit is dependent on who is signed up for the shift, so make sure the correct Scout(s) are signed up and sales credit will adjust according to the split type.

  • With Individual, sales credit is based on who recorded the sale, so be sure to log the sale under the correct Scout.
