The Short Answer
Trail's End does not restrict storefront selling by city, town, or district. Your unit is welcome to sell anywhere within your Scout Council's boundaries — including outside your immediate neighborhood, city limits, or district.
What Boundaries Actually Apply
The only geographic boundary enforced by Trail's End is the Council boundary. When your unit logs into the Trail's End platform to reserve a storefront, you will only see available locations within your own Council. You cannot book locations in a different Council, and units from other Councils cannot book locations in yours.
Beyond that, Trail's End does not limit or regulate where your unit can sell within your Council.
Your Onboarding Radius — and What It's Actually For
During onboarding, you were asked to provide a central address and a preferred driving distance radius. This information is used for one specific purpose: pre-assigning storefront locations to your unit at the start of the selling season. It helps Trail's End match units with convenient nearby locations before the general reservation window opens.
Once pre-assignments are made, that radius no longer restricts you. You are free to browse and book any available storefront within your Council, regardless of how far it falls outside the radius you set during onboarding.
Why We Take This Approach
Popcorn storefronts are a limited resource — popular retail partners only have so many available time slots, and demand varies by location. Allowing units to sell anywhere within their Council creates more opportunity for everyone:
Units in smaller communities may not have enough local storefronts to fill their calendar. Selling in a neighboring city opens up more options and more selling time.
High-traffic locations (busy shopping centers, grocery anchors, etc.) are often in larger or more commercial areas. Units willing to drive for better foot traffic can significantly increase their sales.
Flexibility rewards effort. Families who are willing to travel often see strong results, and we want the platform to support that.
💡 Tip: If your unit is struggling to find available storefronts locally, try expanding your search within the platform. You may find open slots in nearby towns or cities that are well worth the drive.
What About Units Selling "In My Town"?
It's natural to feel some ownership over familiar selling locations, especially ones your unit has used for years. However, Trail's End does not designate storefronts as exclusive to any particular unit, district, or community. Slots are available to all units in the Council.
If you want to secure your preferred locations, the best strategy is to book early when the reservation window opens.
What About Storefronts Your Unit Arranges Directly?
In some cases, unit leaders arrange storefront locations directly with a retailer, outside of the Trail's End platform. Geographic policies for self-arranged locations are set by your Council, not Trail's End. Some Councils have policies that do not allow units to self-arrange locations outside their local area, so check with your Council before doing so.
Summary
Trail's End enforces Council boundaries only. Your unit can sell anywhere within your Council.
City, town, and district lines are not restrictions in the Trail's End platform.
Your onboarding radius is used for pre-assignments only and does not restrict your bookings afterward.
Selling outside your local area is encouraged when local slots are scarce or you're looking for higher foot traffic.
For self-arranged storefronts, follow your Council's policies, which may be more restrictive.
