Splitting Storefront Reservations

This article explains how you can split off shifts from your reservation(s) that your unit will not be able to use.

Written by Rachelle C

If your unit reserved a storefront time block but can't fill every shift within it, you can now release the hours you won't use back to the pool of reservations, so another unit has the chance to claim them, and you get those hours back in your storefront budget.

Note: If you want to release the entire reservation (all shifts), please see: Releasing Storefront Reservations

How it works

When you book a storefront, you reserve a block of time with the store, for example 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. If you later realize you don't have a Scout available to cover part of that block, say the last two hours, you can split your reservation and release just that portion. The released time goes back to the shared pool for other units to claim, and the hours are credited back to your storefront budget.

You can only release time from the beginning or end of your reservation, not from the middle. Using the 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM example, you could release:

  • 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (the start)

  • 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (the end)

  • 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (a longer chunk from the start)

  • 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (any length from the start)

  • 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM (a longer chunk from the end)

You can't keep the ends and drop the middle. For example, keeping 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM while releasing only 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM isn't possible. Reservations can only be split from the outside in.

How to release hours

  1. Go to your storefront and select the Shifts tab.

  2. Click Edit Shifts.

  3. Find the shift or open slot you want to remove and click the trash can to delete it.

  4. Once that slot is removed, a Release Hours button appears next to the empty time period.

  5. Click Release Hours.

  6. Confirm the release in the pop-up. This will show you exactly which hours are being released and let you know the remaining reservation stays intact.

Note: The minimum time that can be released is 1 hour.

Once confirmed, the released time is removed from your reservation and returned to the shared pool for other units to claim. The corresponding hours are added back to your storefront budget.

Note: If you only remove the shift, but you don't release the hours, it will not impact your storefront budget. In other words, the hours are only returned to your budget if you release them.

What if I change my mind?

  • If you haven't clicked Release Hours yet: Go back to Edit Shifts and add the slot back. Nothing has been released, so this just restores your original reservation.

  • If you've already released the hours: Go to Add Reservations and look for that same time period. You can reserve it again, as long as another unit hasn't claimed it first.

Good to know

  • You can only release time from the start or end of a reservation, never from the middle.

  • You can release time from both the beginning and the ending, in two separate actions (click Release hours on both)

  • Released hours can be claimed by another unit as usual, under Add Reservations.
