Cash to Credit®: Quick Guide for Parents & Scouts

Step-by-step guide for parents and Scouts on how to use Cash to Credit® in the Trail's End App® to convert collected cash into a credit card payment, including timing deadlines and bonus reward points earned.

Written by Rachelle C

Cash to Credit® allows parents to turn in cash from Scout or Storefront sales by paying with a credit card in the Trail’s End App®.

When Should I Use Cash to Credit?

Use Cash to Credit® when you have collected cash and want to:

  • Turn it in to your Unit without going to the Unit Leader

  • Ensure the unit receives payment quickly

Quick Steps

  • Open the Trail’s End App®.

  1. Tap the green button for the cash you want to convert.

    1. Cash from Scout sales is grouped.

    2. Cash from storefront sales is grouped by storefront.

  2. Enter the amount (up to the maximum available).

  3. Tap Convert

  4. Verify the cash you are taking matches the amount that is being converted.

  5. Once you have counted the cash, select the checkbox and tap the ‘Continue to Payment’ button.

  6. Pay using:

    • Tap to Pay

    • Square Reader

    • Manual card entry

    • Note: Both Credit and Debit can be used.

  7. After payment, you will see a confirmation message.

  8. Keep the cash you converted.

The amount available to convert at any given time during a storefront will be all cash sales to that point that have not already been converted.

If you would like to convert less than the maximum amount, type in the amount you want to convert.

Scout with both Storefront and Individual Sales

A Scout that has cash due from both a storefront and individual sales, will see two green boxes. Example:

Important Timing

  • Storefront Sales®: Best Practice is to convert at the end of your shift. You must convert by the end of the day (midnight local time).

  • Scout sales: Convert anytime during the season. All conversions must be completed by December 31 at 7:00 PM ET.

Trail's End Rewards®

  • Scouts earn an extra 3 points per dollar converted.

  • For storefronts, points are split based on storefront split method.

Troubleshooting

If there are cash sales that have not already been converted to credit, the Cash to Credit button should appear automatically.

Common Reasons the Button Doesn't Appear

All cash sales have already been converted to credit Once every eligible cash sale has been converted, there is nothing left to convert, so the button no longer displays.

Another Scout already converted the cash (Storefronts only) On Storefronts, all Scouts working that shift can see the Cash to Credit option and convert available cash. If another Scout already converted it, the button will no longer appear for the rest of the group. A Scout should never convert more cash than they physically have in hand. A leader can check the Cash tab (see below) to confirm whether this happened.

Sales were moved from Individual to Storefront after conversion If Cash to Credit was completed on individual sales, and those sales were later moved to a Storefront, the converted amount does not move with them. This can make it look like the Scout converted more cash than they have sales for. When cash due is zero or negative, the button will not appear.

Sales were moved from Storefront to Individual after conversion The reverse also applies. If Cash to Credit was completed on a Storefront, and those sales were later moved to Individual, the converted amount stays with the Storefront. This can make it look like more cash was converted than there are sales for. When cash due is zero or negative, the Cash to Credit option will not be available.

Checking the Details

Leaders can review the Cash tab under a Scout or Storefront to help troubleshoot which sales were converted and when.
