Technology Requirements for the Trail’s End App

Updated this week

The Trail’s End App is designed to make selling easy, secure, and accurate for Scouts and Unit Leaders. Below are the technology requirements and tips to help you prepare for a successful sale.

Minimum Device Requirements

Because the Trail’s End App processes credit card payments through Square, it must meet strict security standards. As a result, the app can only run on newer operating systems:

  • Android: Version 12 or higher

  • iOS (Apple): Version 16 or higher

If your device does not support these versions, the Trail’s End App update will not be available in the App Store or Google Play.

We understand that not everyone has access to newer devices. Unfortunately, security requirements limit our ability to support older operating systems.

If you are unable to update your device and do not have access to a newer device, you can still enter cash sales through the Trail’s End website.

Is Internet Access Required?

Yes. A cellular data plan is required to record both cash and credit card sales in the Trail’s End App.

Using the App Without Internet Access

The Trail’s End App cannot record sales while your device is offline. If you lose connectivity, you can still collect orders and enter them later in the app or on the website, so they count toward sales and rewards.

Below are tips based on your connectivity situation.

I’m in an Area with Intermittent Connectivity

If your connection goes in and out:

  • Try connecting to Wi-Fi if available.

    • This often works well at storefronts where a store may provide Wi-Fi.

  • If Wi-Fi is not available or reliable, track sales on paper.

  • Enter the sales in the Trail’s End App once you have a stable connection.

I’m in an Area with No Connectivity

If you know you will be selling in an area with no internet access:

  • Track all sales on paper.

  • Enter the sales in the Trail’s End App once you return to an area with connectivity.

Important Notes About Entering Sales

  • Storefront sales must be entered on the same day as the sale.
If sales need to be entered for a previous day, the Unit Leader has the ability to enter them.

  • Sales must be entered in the Trail’s End system to:

    • Count toward Scout sales totals

    • Be included in rewards
