Why are credit cards preferred?

Modified on Fri, 03 May 2024 at 12:26 PM

Credit cards are preferred for several reasons:

  • Benefits for Leaders: Credit cards eliminate the need for manual counting and trips to the bank for deposits. Credit cards also reduce risk (risk of errors, risk of accepting counterfeit bills, and risk of not getting payments turned into the unit).
  • Consumer Behavior: Many consumers now prefer using credit cards over cash. Studies show that individuals tend to spend more when using credit cards, which can ultimately benefit fundraising efforts.
  • Benefits for Scouts: Credit card transactions result in higher rewards points and there is less risk for Scout families of misplacing cash or having it stolen prior to turning it in. It is also convenient to not have to take cash to your Treasurer.
  • Streamlined Accounting: Credit card payments enable units to quickly settle their bills with the Council. This means many units avoid the hassle of writing checks, resulting in faster payments for both the Council and units.
